The Most Underrated Band Of All Time: SUPERCHUNK

Image
Whenever you think of bands that rocked out the hardest in the 90s, most feeble brains go to Nirvana, Soundgarden, Alice In Chains, possibly even Green Day, The Smashing Pumpkins, or even Pearl Jam; maybe just maybe you thought of Rage Against The Machine, Stone Temple Pilots. You know, all those grunge and alternative bands that were insanely popular and killed it on the radio everyday. But there's one band that comes straight out of Chapel Hill, North Carolina that hardly gets mentioned that dominated style and charisma unlike any other band. I'm speaking of course about a little band known as Superchunk. Superchunk, photo via Guitar.com     Formed in 1989 by Mac McCaughan, Laura Ballance, Chuck Garrison, and Jack McCook, Superchunk went straight to work to ensure they had an eclectic sound that would paste them onto the rock scene like mod podge to construction paper. I feel that it's essential to add that Superchunk got their name from Chuck Garrison, because the

So You Have a Kidney Stone, eh?

ai generated image via freepik      Recently about 2 weeks ago, I sat down and held my 10 month old daughter at home after eating at my girlfriends brothers house with them, and everything seemed all fine and dandy. Suddenly, and I mean suddenly, I had the absolute worst pain of all time in my groin. It struck me like a bolt of lightning and soon I was toppled over barely able to walk. My girlfriend asked if I needed the emergency room and of course I said "no" at first, but then I agreed to go because it wasn't going away and the throbbing was unbearable. My first ER trip for this went terribly; the nurses absolutely sucked and were rude. It was about 10:15 p.m. and they just weren't having my whining (because I was in terrible pain). They didn't do anything or check anything, they waited until I puked in the bathroom (from the pain) and then discharged me. I could barely sleep, was in severe pain, and had no pain medications. I woke up the next morning after tos

Larry Clark was a terrible person

Recently I saw the documentary " We Were Once Kids " which showcases the behind the scenes lives and stories from a few of the teenagers that were in the film. Most notably Hamilton Harris (the dude in the park that does the blunt rolling tutorial), Priscilla Forsythe, Jamel Simmons, Highlyann Krasnow, Jon Abrams, and posthumously (I think I'm using that word right) Justin Pierce and Harold Hunter - two of the main stars that went down dark paths after the movie Kids came out in 1995 and both suffered tragic deaths.     The documentary is extremely well made and includes some of the rarest footage I've ever seen of any of these individuals named above. The fact that they usually had someone following them with a camera to film them skating and catch their daily lives is amazing. It even includes footage of Justin Pierce winning the Independent Spirit Award for 'best debut performance' in 1996, and Harmony Korine and Larry Clark's cringey Q&A from

Why Rip Torn Attacked Norman Mailer With A Hammer

Image
The Maidstone fight in a lovely HD quality       In the year 1970, a movie was released titled Maidstone, written and directed by a confusing artistic soul named Norman Mailer. The movie is really only somewhat famous amongst filmmakers and film fans alike for one extremely disturbing scene that plays out at the end of the hour and fifty minute long movie that appears to show director and star Norman Mailer and co-star Rip Torn actually violently fighting each other. The movie itself is about an ego-centric filmmaker who starts a Presidential campaign... I guess? Amidst the movie, it is spoken that Mailer's character should be assassinated while on his road to become President, often by relatives, friends and acquaintances who are out for his assets.      In Rip Torn's words during an interview with Filmmakers Newsletter in 1971 when asked what the film was about, Torn explained, "it's about assassination. Norman asked several people to set up phony assassination atte

Zach Cregger's 'Barbarian' Is The Craziest Movie Of The Year

Image
by Rhett Rhodes image via Spoiler Free Reviews     When it comes to horror-thriller movies and who is known for being prominent in the genre, Zach Cregger was not at all who I was expecting to join the club. Cregger is more or less known for his comedic beginnings in the comedy sketch group 'Whitest Kids U'Know' and aside from a few notable television and movie appearances, he mostly stayed out of the mainstream public eye in the last 12 years. Recently Cregger has been at the highest in his career for his newest horror-thriller movie 'Barbarian'; the movie everyone is talking about.     This has been re-occurring, in the sense of comedians making horror films, as lately one of the most popular and respected in the business is Jordan Peele, who started out in sketch comedy with 'Mad TV' and released his third film ' Nope ' earlier this year. And much like Peele's movies, Barbarian is a mind twistingly insane hell ride stricken with much originali

Aqua Teen Forever: Plantasm - Movie Review

Image
 - Rhett Rhodes @rhettrhodes98 a link to my predictions of this movie from September     The moment I have been waiting for is finally here; watching 'Aqua Teen Forever: Plantasm', the first (out of 3) new Adult Swim films made straight to video and streaming. Actually, within the first 10 minutes the Mooninites make a joke about how "theaters rejected" this movie, even though I'm pretty sure it was always intended to be a video/streaming release. SOME SPOILERS (but limited to just few) photo via: Icon vs Icon     It was hard to stress while watching this; it was genuinely such a funny and comfortable watch. One thing I can say right off the bat is how the pace is so much different from the first movie. As reboots and other terms go, this is obviously not a sequel to the first film whatsoever; this is a full-fledged brand new story with brand new characters, and it did not f*ck around. I have to mention because I noticed, the animation is slightly different. When

Blueface Arrested for Attempted Murder, I Guess I Was Wrong

TMZ: Blueface Arrested in Vegas for Attempted Murder My previous writing on Blueface and Chrisean:   rhetts blog: Chrisean Rock is a Sad Thing     Do you remember when I said that I don't see Blueface or Chrisean Rock being relevant or famous within the next 5 years? Yeah I was wrong about that; spoke entirely too soon. Because if Blueface keeps up an act like this then yes, sadly he will be in the public eye for quite some time. I was just more or less hoping for my own sake that they would fall into obscurity quickly.     Content warning: murder; violence     Blueface and Chrisean were seen in a video that TMZ obtained of the moment cops stormed in and arrested him on an open warrant that was out for him. This is going around all over the news and media for the seriousness of the charges: felony attempted murder with a firearm or tear gas. It's also stated in TMZ's article that additional charges are being added of discharging a firearm into a house, building, vehicle,
